Emo guy... makeup and black hair?

One of my really good guy friends is trying to be emo, and he needs help. He's young, tall, skinny, with bright red hair and lots of freckles. Not typical. What would look good on him?

He wants his hair to look like Jared Leto's on the music vid 'From Yesterday' (http://www.amny.com/media/photo/2006-08/... which means he would have to dye it black. Do natural reds look ok with black hair?

He also wants to cover up his freckles and have paler skin. Does it look weird to have a guy wear foundation and concealer and all that? I'm afraid if he wants to go paler he'll look terrible, because I'm not sure if makeup can do that. He also wants to start wearing eyeliner.

What should I recommend? I don't want him to be a complete freak. Can you really look good with paler than skin tone makeup, black hair on an irish complexion, and black eyeliner?

why does he want to do that? let him know that he would not look good with black hair. or makeup. tell him that you like the way he looks now. this whole emo thing is ridiculous. he wants to cut himself and be depressed? that's where it all started anyway.

If he has it in him to be emo it will happen. He'll buy "emo" clothes and have an "emo" taste in makeup, hair, etc. If he tries to force it it will look bad no mater what and he probably won't like it.

Well in my opinion I'd say 2 thumbs down to the whole idea. It really just sounds like your friends going through a bit of an identity crisis, if anything I'd recommend reminding your mate how wicked he is just being himself and try to help him find a look that suits a bit more- and is easier to up hold.

redheads make it easier going lighter (hair colour wise) like a nice blonde, which wont show as much when the regrowth starts on its way!

also hiding frecks is easier if he hangs out in the sun a bit or spray tans if his skin can't handle it.

Alternatively if his heart is set on the whole emo thing, try to stear him clear of as much make up as possible, no girl wants to go home with a guy that wears more make up then she does!!!
