Would very temporary black hair dye damage my hair?

I have thick darker orange/red, almost browny natural hair, and I'm wondering if I should dye my hair black for a 'crazy hair event' if i use one of those dyes that wash off in 3-5 washes, and I'm wondering if it would damage my hair (I do condition my hair often) and if the black would stay in my hair or turn my hair darker afterwards or something like that?

My hair has alot of volume, so id probably need to use quite a bit.

No it wont. It was designed to protect your hair during the hair color process.

No, it shouldn't. I think a lot of people think hair dye has a big affect on hair but it really doesn't unless you bleach it like every other week. But temp hair dye will be fine, and if it feels dry, buy some shampoo with vitamin e in it, it makes it soft!! :)

It can. My mom used it once for a halloween party and it took a lot longer than 3-5 washes to come out. She has light brown hair.

Nah, if its only temporary it won't damage your hair. With fading though, it depends on the condition of your hair, wether you've bleached/dyed it before etc

If your super worried out about the black not fading right but you liked having black. Keep it. =]

well first a temp will not damage at all, so no worries there. But you do have to worry about it staining your hair. Alot of times those dark colors will stain. You may could try (esp it being close to halloween) to find a spray hair color. You know the kind you can get in all diffrent colors...

Also, if you have a Sallys Beauty Store in your area, check in there. they have all kinds of pastes, sprays, etc that are very temporary.

Since it's temporary dye it may not damage your hair, but since you're using black the color may not all come out. You could end up with problems with that. Since you mentioned you're a guy it might be ok if you get your hair cut often. It wouldn't take to long for it to all grow out. Have fun on crazy hair day in any case.
